A magician on the Gold Coast is not likely to wait until his moment. They just walk into the crowd, they begin with a simple line, and to the interested person, they are located here: https://www.google.com/maps?cid=12189686196921623283.

"Anyone carrying a coin?" the magician asks. Somebody reaches in his pocket and the coin is borrowed. It slides between the fingers of the magician as though it were alive, and falls in the hand of the volunteer. "Hold tight," the magician says. The hand closes. A quick tap. "Open it." Gone.

Guests laugh first. Confusion follows. Then somebody sees the coin in the glass beside him. The beat of close up magic is that little shock.

That is the passion of Gold Coast events: beach weddings, birthday dinners, office parties where people secretly pray that anything should not be said anymore. A magician is blown in like a breath of the sea into these meetings.

This is followed by cards, a well-known weapon that will never fail. A guest signs one. The magician flips nonchalantly, cuts and squares the deck. The card bearing the signature detaches itself and falls on top. "Again," someone says. It jumps to the top again. The third time, there is a leaning in, the room is more suspicious. One of them inspects the sleeves of the magician.

The next reveal hits harder. The card with his sign is found in a wallet which never went out of the table. Silence hangs for a moment. Then laughter erupts.

Children are like thunder, their minds pour with thoughts. "You hid it somewhere!" "Maybe," the magician replies. Another trick follows. One of the fingers holds a rubber band which is stretched between the fingers and jumps without breaking. The children are looking because, somebody must have broken the laws of nature.

Adults take magic as a riddle. Crossing hands, squinting eyes, seek pockets or made diversions. They whisper theories. The magician then takes a ring on loan. It disappears. After a half of a minute it is hanging on a key-chain. Same ring. Same scratches. Mystery wins again.

Gold Coast magicians make fun with sleight of hand. A quick joke distracts. Laughter spreads. Eyes drift. A little flick is all the magician wants. It is the rhythm that corporate parties are depending on. The room can be stiff at first especially at the beginning of the evening but magic is better than small talk.

Picture coworkers near a bar. The magician will give a person a marker. "Sign this card." The card is returned into the deck. It falls down, seconds later, out of a closed envelope lying on the table. Now everyone pays attention.

Magicians in the Gold coast play in restaurants, resorts, yachts and backyard parties. They leave group after group, astounded. A fork bends in someone's hand. A banknote changes value. There is a card in a shoe in the other side of the room.

Every prank has a few minutes, though the recollection remains. It is still replayed hours later by guests. "Did you see the ring trick?" No, but there was a card in the wallet that was wild. No one cracks the case--and to tell the truth, no one cares.
