Match report With three young players making their senior debut, Green were expecting a hammering on the visit to Rankins. Early wickets by Jack Gildersleeve and Ali Pasha gave cause for hope but Adrian Greenfield was in dominant form in partnership with Carl Lees. Lees was dismissed for 25 by Ellis Hutson who bowled well in his first outing, ending up with the respectable figures of 1 for 34 from his 8 overs. Greenfield completed a well deserved century (courtesy of some less than capable catching by the Griffons) at which point he retired. The rate abated somewhat but a late flurry of runs took the score to 230 for 7 from the allotted 40 overs.
There was a heavy downpour as the Griffons began their response. When play resumed in slippery conditions,the target was revised to 150 from 25 overs. Cockinson went early but Billy Shorey looked in good form. Harry Johnston plated with aggression in his first innings for the club and Luke Sawyer also hit out well. Billy Bosh played some powerful shots to keep the Griffons up with the rate but was bowled soon after reaching a good half century. Stephen Fidler scored his first run for the Griffons but perished soon afterwards. The Griffons' main hope rested with Martin Cason who was still revelling in his 3 wickets and Ali Pasha who had taken 2 of the hosts' wickets. Both hit out well with the Fat Man playing some some belligerent shots in his undefeated 45. Fatigue set in as the running became frantic and two off the last ball secured a tie.
Credit to both sides in making the best of the match following the downpour.
