Asian Warriors v Ardleigh Green Cricket Club Indoor on Fri 13 Dec 2013 at 09:00
Ardleigh Green Cricket Club Won 1 Wicket
With a new ball being used for each semi-final, we thought that the toss was vital and duly inserted the Warriors. With 5 bowlers available, it was viewed that we could cover each eventuality should a batsmen taking a liking to any particular bowler.
The bowling largely tested the Warriors but with the ball swinging about we fell foul of the leg side wide rule conceding 25 wides. The fielding however was our best of the tournament so far with three run-outs one each for Jumbo, Smudge and Bill. Lall scored his customary 25 opening (26 in fact) but not at his usual rate – in fact the Warriors missed a trick by not getting him back to the crease as the lower order all struggled to lay bat on ball and they closed on 101 which is one of their lower totals
Smudge batted really well – mixing singles and boundaries to retire on 25 whilst Jumbo and Bill (the ball of the night, apparently) struggled against Nawaz and Mughal. The problem Warriors had was that they only had 3 bowlers so although we were well behind the run rate we had wickets in hand. Fat Cas took toll of a misfiring Rock and the one over from Gammon to also retire on 25. Once Bones was dismissed by the returning Mughal – Toast entered to play a captains innings and in tandem with Smudge our run rate improved but we still required 28 from the last two overs. The ninth over bowled by Rock was expensive which brought the target down to 11 from the last over. Toast and Smudge picked off the side walls until Smudge was run out by Rocky (you don’t try to pinch a quick single to that boy) with the score on 98. Fat Cas was superbly caught behind by Lall off Nawaz without adding to the score which left Toast all alone to score 4 runs off the last ball.
The final delivery was squirted to the side wall and a scampered run taken but when the return ended up in the hands of the bowler he inexplicably tried to throw the stumps down, missed and Mughal was unable to back up as the ball agonizingly rolled onto the boundary wall.
If the scores had been level – then we believe Warriors would have progressed by losing fewer wickets.
There you go – you can pick the “Bones” out of that and post it onto the website
