Royston has shown considerable talent since joining the club
as a youngster. He left briefly to play cricket in the Premier League with
Shenfield but, since his return as captain, he looks set to break all
records.
Royston skippered the side to promotion to the Premier League for
the first time in the club's history in 2005, leading from the front with
707 runs at an average of 35.He
holds the record for the highest individual
score (246), the most centuries (60), the most runs in a season (3,256) and
the most catches in a season (45).
He passed 20,000 runs for the club in 2003 and has now scored more runs than
anybody for the club.
He represented
the Essex ECB against Warwickshire and played for the SNEL League team which
reached the final of the Sovereign Cup in 2003.
