Gary was a resolute batsman, playing mainly for the 2nd XI.
On the rebel tour, he was given out whilst lying on the ground having been
hit on the head by the ball at which point he jumped up and left the field
immediately. He made a comeback in 2005 in the 5th XI run by brother-in-law
Vic Simmons and scored his maiden century.
He showed his musical talent on the same tour with his
rendition of the first few bars of Lady Madonna.
